OK, We Have Some Gays, But...

So as it turns out, all forms of dance are not banned in the Islamic Republic. In fact, it seems that the Disco was the favorite step of Iran’s controversial President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at the UN this week. In seeking to clarify remarks he made last year at the UN about homosexuality in his country, the bellicose President famously declared, “We do not have this phenomenon in our country,” a comment for which he received a large amount of ridicule both in the West and across the Islamic world.

In his return trip to the UN this past week, Ahmadinejad admitted – through use of the Disco – that Iran, “had a few gays.”
In true-Disco form, Ahmadinejad used the strategic concession (i.e., one-step back to go two-steps forward) to lambaste homosexuality – through use of the Label – as an "unlikable and foreign act" that "shakes the foundations of society," "robs humanity" and "brings about disease."
